WXP was then as good as new and didn't know that it had already produced a set of recovery media. Ran the program to create a set of recovery CDs/DVD (set 2). Of course using BING one can image the recovery partition itself (as many copies as you want) to restore it if ever required.

OK What I did was reformat the WME drive and restore the Image file from my present install of WXP to that partition. Then I ran the BootMagic program and deleted the old WME from it and added the new WXP install in it's place. It won't boot. I can still boot the three other OS's but when I select the new XP

Using GHOST in W98 & WXP?
And will that then still appear on the list of options when I boot up, ie as "Windows XP Home Edition #1"? That delayed me a fair while. Anyway, I finally bit the bullet and did the Restore Image. I had now apparently re-copied my XP Home system partition C onto partition E with Drive Image 2002,

WXP won't boot
WXP SP1 won't boot into normal mode. It will boot into Safe Mode. It just sits at the splash screen and the progress indicator goes by. This occured after a reboot by Drive Image 2002 which was backing up the hard drive ironically. I have gone in through Safe Mode and done a Scandisk and disabled nearly everything

{ASSD} Total meltdown
If you can still boot into windows, go into the smart restore program and make a boot floppy from there. I think you can download a boot image from the pac-bell website too, I'm not sure about the WME based PacBells but the models with WXP and a CDR had an option to create your own set of recovery CD's.

Any problems with DirectX 9 under 98SE?
I believe during the POST if you hit F11 this will get you there where they have a Ghost image for you to restore to. I tried to install a fresh copy of WXP SP2 onto a Dell 8400 the other day and had a new problem for me. It booted from the CD, but >>> after it said "Setup will now check your hardware (blah

WPA and Drive Image 5 happy together
(W2K, WXP, W98?) Jeff, if you have a big enough HD I would recommend that you consider setting aside some DASD for a Linux image and perhaps build a VFAT D: I've also seen some neat tricks like Mondo/Mindi backup and restore (the closest thing to a "sysback" for Linux) which deal w/ some zones as an "image"

I have several CDs to reinstall WXP from HP. FS~ It depends on what the OEM has given you. Check with HP's tech support. If you have only a restore image, you can't slipstream it. Sometimes you can slipstream using the i386 folder on the hard drive if the OEM set it up that way. Otherwise, you are SOL.

TIme to buy a DVD writer?
I want to be able to BOOT UP to CD or DISKETTE and restore WITHOUT having to re-install the OS. I use Drive Image 2002 to accomplish this task all the time. However, I installed Windows XP on a spare partition to try it out. From that point on my Drive Image backups and restores started failing.

Need help using system restore points
I think some or all of Dell Restore CDs will work as qualifying media. It depends on how the CD is set up by the manufacturer. Many OEMs use an image, 1) If you UPGRADE from W98 to WXP home or professional, and your hard drive crashes later, an you reinstall the XP UPGRADEon a new hard drive - without

Rather than beg microsoft to reactivate me yet again, fortunately I had used a drive backup program, so I was able to just restore from the image, making Wxp forget about all the other changes I had tried. So, again... If microsoft can do this for Thailand, why can't they do this for the US?

To me it is reckless advice to tell some one that can't even run the Upgrade Advisor to completion, not to have a full disk image before trying to install/upgrade to XP on older hardware. By the way, it takes me around 4 hours to restore my system from scratch, with all of my settings, and around 20 'most-used'
